Work from the 1990's |
|
The 1990's would see my work change from the figurative genre to a non-representational one. The inspiration came from two significantly different sculptors – one in Italy and another in California. A book (in Italian) about the Italian sculptor Arnaldo Pomodoro, and a trip to Mendocino, CA that introduced me to the wood sculptures of Doug Ayers, piqued my interest in abstract work. Both sculptors introduced a concept of finished surfaces, interrupted and contrasted with highly textured areas. I began to experiment with my own ideas and became captured by the results. Some of those initial works are reproduced below. |
